Hearing Aid Types and Styles

Hearing aid is a small but useful apparatus that usually fits in the human’s ear designed to amplify the sound for the wearer. The first type of hearing aid developed in Bell Laboratories was a large sized hearing aid worn inside the pocket or at the belt and is connected to the ears by a cord. These body worn hearing aids have evolved into several types and currently lots of Hearing Aid online choices are available.

Due to the large size, the body worn hearing aids have been replaced by several models of hearing aids including the behind the ears (BTE) hearing aid, in the ear (ITE) hearing aid, and open fit hearing aids, just to name a few.

Behind the ears hearing aid have small plastic case that fits perfectly behind the ears and delivers sound through conduction. This hearing aid style is especially useful for children due to its durability; it also comes in different colors ranging from discreet skin tones to bright loud colors making it fashionable

The in the ear aids are placed in the center of the ear and is personally made to fit the size of one’s ear. However, these models are not usually recommended for children because it will require replacement as the child grows up and these replacements can be too costly.

Another type of hearing aid is the open fit hearing aids like the behind the ear type of device but is relatively smaller and lighter. This types are also unnoticeable to other people and the earpiece does not fit tightly in the ear canal making it more comfortable than the traditional BTE aids.

The technology behind these hearing aids can either be analog or digital with the major difference of how sound waves is processed before it enters the human ear. Analog devices are cheaper but the thing is they do not come with the features that digital aids offer. But today, advanced technologies made cheap digital hearing aid is available; thus superior digital hearing aids are made affordable.
